Heidi Dixon-Wright’s work experience with Actisense
This week, we’ve been delighted to have Heidi Dixon-Wright join us from St Edwards School, where she’s just about to enter Year 11 to complete her GCSE’s. She’s spent the week finding out all about what Actisense does and how our NMEA products help our customers.
Working with Doug Thomson from our Engineering Services team, Heidi has been learning the process of designing and manufacturing a product. She has constructed her very own water detector – from creating the circuitry to completing the soldering. Her new device works by sending signals via our EMU-1 (Engine Monitoring Unit) to alert boat owners of any water detection.
Doug said: “It has been a real pleasure having Heidi here with us this week. She is a very smart and personable young lady and has shown real interest in building a device from scratch.”
Actisense COO, Lesley Keets, said: “Heidi has achieved a lot in her work experience week with us. We’re very proud to have had her work with us. It’s always inspiring seeing the next generation of keen and engaged students who are clearly interested in the world of engineering. We wish Heidi every success with her studies and we’re sure she has a great career ahead in the engineering space.”
Heidi commented: “I’ve had a really enjoyable week. It’s been so interesting to learn all these new processes and to be able to build a new device from conception through to completion – and to see it working live on a real boat network. I’ve loved every minute of it!”
