A record 800 business people, dignitaries, MPs and press from across Dorset recently gathered at the renowned Bournemouth International Centre for the county’s largest and most prestigious business event, The Dorset Business Awards.
With a ‘Hollywood’ theme, the evening was a night of exuberant style and glamour worthy of the Oscars, as Dorset’s business stars were honoured. Shining brightest on the night, were Poole-based marine electronics brand, Actisense, who swept a phenomenal two Dorset Business Awards.
CEO of Actisense, Phil Whitehurst, was crowned as Dorset’s Entrepreneur of the Year in recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit which has seen his company grow from the spare bedroom of his apartment to become an internationally recognised brand and a leader in the marine electronics industry. Phil is also respected globally as a top authority and spokesman for the National Marine Electronics Association and sits on the industries pivotal steering committee, OneNet®.
Actisense also picked up the Dorset Export Award in honour of the company’s international trading which encompasses over 85% of their business. Proudly waving the Dorset flag, Actisense currently has distributors in 34 countries worldwide and sells their products across the globe to places including Dubai, Australia, USA, Canada, Mainland Europe and Hong Kong.
Commenting on their rare double-win, Phil Whitehurst has said:
“The team and I are absolutely thrilled to have been recognised with not one but two Dorset Business Awards. To be recognised for the hard work that we have all put into create a truly international company is overwhelming.
I am over the moon to be recognised as Entrepreneur of the Year but a businessman is only as strong as the team behind him. Actisense is a true team effort and we have all fought hard to get where we are now.
However, there is no slowing down and following our recent rebrand we will strive to reach more global markets. We also have several other business ventures in the pipeline too – so keep watching!”
